Chogolisa Expedition
Chogolisa is a mountain peak located in the Karakoram range in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. It has two peaks, with the higher peak, Chogolisa I, standing at 7,668 meters (25,160 feet) above sea level.
Chogolisa I was first climbed in 1975 by a Japanese expedition led by Yoshio Ogata. The climbers who reached the summit were Tsuneo Shigehiro, Yu Watanabe, and Sherpa Ang Kami. The route they took, the Southwest Ridge, has become the standard route for climbing Chogolisa I. Since the first ascent, Chogolisa I has been climbed by a number of different expeditions, both guided and unguided. However, the mountain remains a challenging and dangerous climb, with a number of accidents and fatalities over the years.
Anyone considering an attempt on Chogolisa we IKA should have a high level of mountaineering experience, including technical ice climbing and high-altitude expedition experience. A good understanding of altitude sickness and its symptoms is also essential. As with any mountaineering expedition, thorough planning, preparation, and caution are necessary to ensure the safety of all members of the team.
