Gaherbrum-I Expedition (8,080-M)
Gasherbrum I, also known as Hidden Peak, is located in the Karakoram mountain range on the border between Pakistan and China. It is the 11th highest mountain in the world, with an elevation of 8,080 meters (26,509 feet). Gasherbrum I is present between the highest peaks in Karakoram Mountain Range. Gasherbrum I is also known as GI. There is a total of six Gasherbrum peaks in the region. However, the GI is the tallest among all Gasherbrum Mountains. The first attempt to climb Gasherbrum I was made in 1956 by a French team led by H. De Segogne. However, the team was unsuccessful due to bad weather conditions and technical difficulties. The first successful ascent of Gasherbrum I was made in 1958 by an American team led by Nicholas B. Clinch. The team used a new route on the mountain, which is now known as the American Route. The base camp for Gasherbrum I is located at the end of the Baltoro Glacier, which is a popular trekking route in the region. The trek to the base camp starts from the town of Skardu, which can be reached by a flight from Islamabad or by a long drive from Gilgit. The best time to climb Gasherbrum I is from June to August, which is the peak climbing season in the region. However, climbers need to be prepared for extreme weather conditions, as the mountain is located in a high-altitude and remote area. Gasherbrum I is a challenging peak to climb, with steep and technical sections, and requires a high level of climbing skills and experience. Climbers need to be well-equipped with proper gear and equipment, and should be accompanied by experienced guides and support staff. Despite the challenges, Gasherbrum I attracts many climbers from around the world who are drawn to its beauty and the sense of adventure that comes with climbing one of the highest peaks in the world.
