Biafo And Hispar Snow Lake Trek
Biafo and Hispar glaciers in Pakistan are truly wonders of nature. With a length of 126 kilometers, they are known as the longest glaciers in the Polar Areas. These glaciers meet at a height of 5150m at the Hispar pass, creating a breathtaking natural spectacle. The highway present on these glaciers connects Askoli in the East and Nagar in the West, and is linked to the Silk Route along with the Sub-Continent of India, Tibet and China. This region has also been linked to the mysterious creature Yeti, with trekker H. W. Tilman claiming to have seen its footprints on the glacier.
This route is also significant for the Hunza people, who use it to reach Askoli and play Polo with the locals. The journey is a challenging one, but also an incredible opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the region, including the rare species of Marcopolo Sheep, Markhor, Ibex, Himalayan bears and snow leopards.
The trek lasts for 22 days and offers a maximum altitude of 5151M. The trek is graded as strenuous and is ideal for experienced trekkers. The best time to visit this region is from July to August. During the trek, you will spend 10 nights in hotels and 12 nights camping in the wilderness. The trip culminates in a visit to Karimabad where you can explore the historic Baltit and Altit forts and experience the hospitality of the Hunza people, known for their prolonged existence across the globe.
